Abstract
The pneumococus has been an important pathogen of pneumonia in Korea, but there was no problem in treatment due to high susceptibility to penicillin.
The incidence of penicillin-resistant pneumococci has been increased after the first report of relatively penicillin-resistant pneumococci in Australia.
In our country, penicillin-resistant pneumococcus was isolated first in 1986. We report a case of pneumonia and sepsis caused by highly penicillin-resistant pneumococcus (MIC 16 g/ml), which was treated with vancomycin, in a patient with systemic
lupus
erythematosus.
